Inklet Brings Some Touch and Handwriting Reco to MacBook TrackPads

Published

on

Inklet Trackpad TabletInklet is an app that allows you to do some drawing and basic handwriting recognition on the TrackPad of a MacBook. Developed by Ten1, the makers of the Pogo Stylus and Pogo Sketch, it looks to work with your fingers, but of course they are recommending that you use a Pogo Stylus as a way of being more accurate. The stylus also gives you pressure sensitivity. The cost of the app is $24.95 or $34.95 if you buy a bundle that includes the Pogo Sketch. Check out some videos after the break.

I think their ‘pressure sensitivity’ is a software trick. I used to program device drivers so I’ve been able to look at a number of drivers for various capacitive touchpad/touchscreen devices and I cannot find even a single reference to pressure information, unlike WACOM devices.

What it does give you, though, is the AREA of the point-of-contact. So, more pressure means a larger point-of-contact area- and they interpolate this with the speed and direction of the stroke to simulate pressure sensitivity. I think this is how WACOM is also able to get 15 levels of pressure sensitivity with their capacitive digitizers (in the new Bamboo tablets).

Don’t know how well it will compare against the tried-and-tested WACOM EMR solution, though.

Now this is cool. It would be great to signing electronic documents.

Does someone to work know if a Pogo stylus work with a standard trackpad (for Windows 7).

    Thanks !
